Abandoned cart
When someone starts to pay in your store and does not finish, Konverda reminds them of their cart on WhatsApp, with a quick automation or with a flow. What the store has to send, the consent checkbox, the countdown, the safeguards and how to set it up.
On this page
Someone reaches your store’s checkout, leaves their phone number and walks away without finishing. Konverda can remind them of their cart on WhatsApp, with a link that reopens it exactly as they left it. Many customers welcome that message, and it is also the one that most easily turns into pestering, so it runs on strict rules: only to people who agreed to it, once, and never after they buy.
What your store has to send
Three notices, all three to Konverda:
- The checkbox, the moment the customer ticks it: to a capture point with «Consentimiento explícito» (explicit consent) switched on. That makes them a marketing contact before any order exists.
- The cart, when the checkout starts:
checkout.startedto the generic connection, with the cart’s id, the link that reopens it, the phone or the email, the items and the total. - The order, when it is paid: the usual order, ideally with the same cart id.
Any store that can call a URL can send them: your own code, Zapier, Make or a webhooks module. The exact contract is in Orders API → Carts.
A cart never enrols anyone: Konverda looks for the person among your contacts — by phone first, then by email — and if they are not there, it does not create them.
The checkout checkbox
Put it next to the phone field. This is the wording we recommend, in Spanish as your customers will read it:
Quiero recibir por WhatsApp avisos de mi pedido, recordatorios de mi carrito y ofertas de [tienda]. Puedo darme de baja cuando quiera respondiendo BAJA. Política de privacidad.
(«I want to receive notices about my order, reminders about my cart and offers from [store] on WhatsApp. I can unsubscribe whenever I want by replying BAJA. Privacy policy.»)
Replace «[tienda]» with your store’s name and link «Política de privacidad» (privacy policy) to your own website’s privacy policy.
The checkbox rules:
- It starts unticked. The person ticks it; it is never ticked by default.
- Buying never depends on it. Someone who does not tick it pays exactly the same way.
- You can reword it, but it must still say the channel (WhatsApp), the three uses (order notices, cart reminders and offers), who is writing (your store) and how to stop receiving them.
No ticked box, no cart message — ever. The cart is recorded, the countdown ends and it closes without sending anything: Konverda does not assume consent because someone typed their phone number at checkout.
For the consent, Konverda records the date, the capture point it arrived through and that it was a checkbox. It does not store the IP address. Konverda does not yet store the exact text the person ticked: keep a copy of your checkbox wording yourself, together with the date you put it live.
The countdown
From the moment the cart arrives, Konverda waits 45 minutes. You change it in «Ajustes → Reglas» (settings → rules), under «Carrito abandonado: cuánto esperar» (abandoned cart: how long to wait), between 30 and 60 minutes.
- If the order arrives within that time, the cart closes and nothing happens.
- If the store sends the same cart again (because something changed), the countdown starts over. It is still one cart and, at most, one reminder.
- If it ends with no purchase, the cart is abandoned and the reminder goes out: the one from your quick automation or the one from your flow.
The safeguards
They are checked when the countdown ends and again right before sending, because a lot can change in 45 minutes. They are the same for a quick automation and for a flow:
- Marketing contacts only, with no opt-out and no «no». If they opted out in the meantime, nothing goes out.
- One reminder per cart. Even if you have several automations or flows on this trigger, only the first one sends.
- At most one cart reminder every 7 days to the same person. A second cart within that week gets no message.
- Never after a purchase. If they have paid since the cart started, through any connection, nothing is sent.
- Always on a marketing template. A cart reminder is advertising; sending it as a utility template is exactly what Meta penalises. Saving an automation or publishing a cart flow with a utility template is refused.
- It does not interrupt. A cart flow does not come in if that person is in the middle of another flow, and a quick automation waits (or is cancelled, depending on how you set it up) while the team is handling their conversation.
And, like any send, it also goes through the usual protections: opt-outs, the daily limit and number quality.
The template
In «Plantillas» (templates), create a «Marketing» template from the suggested «Carrito abandonado» one. It comes with two gaps — the name and what they left behind — and a «Terminar la compra» (complete the purchase) button that opens the cart. Send it to Meta and wait for approval.
The same template works for both ways of sending the reminder.
With a quick automation
The most direct way: one trigger and one template. Use it when the reminder is a single message.
- In «Automatizaciones» (automations), press «Nueva automatización» (new automation), choose «Automatización rápida» (quick automation) and the «Carrito abandonado» trigger.
- Choose your cart template.
- In «Contenido» (content), for the gap of what they left behind choose «Dato del disparador» (trigger data) → «Primer producto del carrito» (first product in the cart) and write a text in case the store does not send it, such as «tu pedido» (your order). The button already carries the cart’s link: Konverda puts it in for you.
- Review and press «Activar» (activate). «Guardar» (save) keeps it paused, so it won’t fire.
With a flow
Use it when you want to carry on the conversation after the reminder: ask a question, wait for the answer, hand over to someone on the team.
- In «Automatizaciones» (automations), press «Nueva automatización» (new automation), choose «Flujo» (flow) and, on the «Inicio» (start) card, the «Carrito abandonado» trigger.
- Add a «Plantilla» (template) step and choose your cart template. For each gap, choose where it comes from: the name from «Nombre del contacto» (contact’s name); what they left behind from «Dato del disparador» (trigger data) → «Primer producto del carrito» (first product in the cart).
- Under «Botón de la plantilla» (template button), the cart’s link is already chosen.
- End with a «Fin» (end) step and press «Publicar» (publish).
The product may not arrive (a store that does not send its items), so that gap asks for a fallback text, such as «tu pedido» (your order). The link always arrives: Konverda does not accept a cart without one.
If the person replies, the conversation lands in your inbox like any other.
The cart link
The link can go in a button or in the text. The suggested template puts it in the «Terminar la compra» button: one tap and the cart opens. If you would rather have the link written out in the message, use a template with a gap for it and, in that gap, choose «Dato del disparador» (trigger data) → «Enlace para recuperar el carrito» (link to recover the cart). A button with a dynamic link only works if it was created in «Plantillas» as a tracked link.
Either way, your store’s address never goes out as is. What goes out is a short Konverda link that records every click and, when opened, takes them to the cart with these tags, so those visits do not show up as direct traffic in your analytics:
| Parameter | Value |
|---|---|
utm_source | konverda |
utm_medium | whatsapp |
utm_campaign | carrito-abandonado |
utm_content | recordatorio |
If your link already carries its own utm_*, they are respected. It also adds the wtk parameter: if your store sends it back on the order, the sale is attributed even when the phone number does not match.
